I’m afraid a lot of people (me included) still have to drive to get to MARTA.
The Simple Answer
Parking is available but not at every station. It’s generally those away from the city center that have parking decks, but there are exceptions.
Check this MARTA page for parking details of each station. This PDF shows parking at each station as well; look for the car icons.
The More Complicated Answer
Of the stations that have parking, there are generally two types — daily and long-term. Daily parking – parking 24 hours or less – is free. There is a daily charge for long-term.
Long-term parking rates are $8 and $5 per day, depending on the station. On the Red Line, for example, long-term parking at North Springs Station is $8 per day, but Sandy Spring Station only charges $5 per day.
If you’re going to be gone more than 24 hours, take your parking ticket with you. You’ll need to present it to the parking staff to pay before you can get out. Or you can just leave it in your car and walk back to pay. These aren’t really huge facilities.
There is a MARTA page on the status of parking facilities where you can see if a lot is full. Before the recent unpleasantness, the risk of parking lots filling up was real, but it’s been many years since that was a wide-scale problem thanks to people working from home now. Still, check the page to make sure your station has parking for you today.
The Details
Most of the Red and Gold Line Stations at or north of Lindbergh Center Station have long-term parking. Chamblee Station only has daily parking. Buckhead Station has no parking at all. There’s no MARTA parking from Arts Center Station to Garnett Station, inclusive. South of Garnett Station, only College Park Station has long-term parking. Of course, you can park at the airport for $438829 per day if you really want. LOL
On the Blue and Green Lines, only Kensington Station has long-term parking priced at $5 per day. The map of the lines show the Kensington has long-term parking, but MARTA’s parking page say it doesn’t. There is a lot there, but it’s not secured; I would say it’s only daily parking. Bankhead and Decatur Stations have no parking at all. There’s also no parking from Vine City Station to King Memorial Station, inclusive. The rest of the stations only have daily parking.
There is a mix of open lots and parking decks. Check Google Maps to look around before you go. For example, the College Park Station is obviously an open lot, but Dunwoody Station has a parking deck right next it.
I have to mention North Springs Station when it comes to parking. There are two ways to drive to the station – via GA-400 and via Peachtree Dunwoody Road – and two different parking decks. The deck you wind up in depends on how you drove in, and, when you leave, you have to go back that way. There’s no crossing back and forth between them.
If you’re taking GA-400 to North Springs Station, you can only get there via the southbound lane. If you’re already south of the station, you’ll need to use Peachtree Dunwoody Road to get there. Once you get off the station exit, there is no return access.
Exit 5 has recently been reconfigured (December 2023) to include Abernathy Road and Hammond Drive, so there’s no more 5A, 5B, 5C thing. Check out this video I made to see how that works now.
